How long does shipping from China to Pakistan actually take?

Sea freight FCL to Karachi typically runs 15–25 days port to port on direct services, and up to 35 days where the routing involves transshipment. LCL adds consolidation at origin (3–7 days) and deconsolidation at destination (3–5 days), so plan 30–40 days door to door. Air freight is 3–7 days, with 3–4 days achievable into Karachi and Lahore on direct services. Express courier lands in 2–5 days. Road via the Khunjerab Pass is 10–18 days. Importers should also budget realistically for Karachi port congestion, which has been adding 5–12 days beyond quoted transit in peak quarters.

What will I actually pay in duty and taxes?

Pakistani imports are assessed on CIF value. The stack is customs duty (0–20% depending on HS heading), additional customs duty (roughly 2–6%), regulatory duty on selected headings, sales tax (generally 12–18%), additional sales tax where applicable, and advance income tax withholding (about 1–5.5% for active filers). Critically, sales tax is applied to the duty-paid value, so the levies compound. A product carrying a 20% headline duty rate commonly lands 45–60% above CIF once everything is stacked; a zero-duty item may land only 20–25% above CIF. Is CIF cheaper than DDP?

Almost never, once you count everything. A low CIF number frequently hides destination charges — terminal handling, documentation, delivery order, demurrage, clearing agent fees — that appear after your cargo has already arrived and your leverage is gone. DDP puts one number in front of you before you commit and moves the clearance risk onto us. We publish both so you can compare honestly.

Can you find the actual factory instead of a trading company?

Yes, and it is usually where the money is. Most Alibaba listings for Pakistani buyers are trading companies adding 15–30%. What happens if the goods are defective when they arrive?

That is what pre-shipment inspection exists to prevent. We inspect to AQL 2.5 with a photographic and video report before the goods leave China, and you hold release authority — a failed report means the container does not load. Where a supplier has misrepresented goods, having a documented inspection record is also what makes a claim or a chargeback realistic rather than theoretical.

Do I need to be a registered importer in Pakistan?

To import commercially, yes — you need an NTN, sales tax registration where applicable, an active status on the FBR taxpayer list, and a PSW/WeBOC trader profile linked to your clearing agent. What is chargeable weight and why does my air quote look wrong?

Air freight bills on the greater of actual gross weight or volumetric weight, calculated as length × width × height in centimetres divided by 6,000. Light, bulky cargo — cushions, plastic housings, packaging — is priced on volume, not kilos, which is why a 200 kg shipment can be billed at 900 kg.
